Should We Be Celebrating The Holidays?

As many of you know Halloween has just passed, but the holiday season has just begun, we have a few more coming up on us. I think it’s only right to talk about what the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy have to say about celebrating these holidays. I also want to talk about the history of these holidays and how they originated, by the end of this I hope that I have given you enough information to study for yourself and answer the question in the Title. I encourage all of you to take everything you read in any of my blogs and study it for yourself, don’t just take my word for it. Now onto the topic at hand:

First let’s talk about Halloween, the world has just recently celebrated Halloween and it seems only fitting to start there. Many people don’t realize what they are truly celebrating when they celebrate Halloween; they think it is just a fun day to get free candy and wear a fun costume of some sort. The true meaning behind Halloween is so evil and scary that I shudder just thinking about it.

Without getting into the whole history of Halloween, because we can all look it up on a Wikipedia page to see the origin. However that is not how it started, we aren’t told in the Bible when the Devil first influenced the first person to put out the “faith” of spiritualism, but I’m sure it goes all the way back to one of Cain’s descendants. Anyway, we all know what witchcraft is and before they were called witches and wizards, they were called druids.

halloween rooted in occult

The witchcraft society dating back centuries have celebrated Halloween, and they aren’t the only ones that celebrated that day. It was and still is a 3-day celebration of the dead, it is also the Fall Equinox, so it is a huge celebration in the occult world. They celebrate the dead and believe that the dead visit and roam around the earth, some people leave gifts and food for their relatives on their graves, so their “relatives” have something to eat and a token of their love. Obviously, it isn’t their dead relatives that are roaming the earth at all.

The Devil as we all know is very cunning, he knows how much it hurts to lose a loved one, so he knew it would strike a chord with thousands of people if they believed that they could see and talk with their loved ones once more. We are told in the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy that the Devil and his evil angels can transform into basically anything that they want, even into an angel of light, which means they can take on the appearance of a dead loved one. To know more about the state of the dead and how the Devil impersonates the dead, you can read it in the Great Controversy, there is a whole chapter on this subject. You can also read my blog called, ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’!

On Halloween these people not only celebrate the dead, but they do weird rituals, dances, and a great many other weird and terrifying things which I’m not going into. Do you really think that the Lord would want us to celebrate a day that is set up in spiritualism? If that were not enough, we are teaching our children that it is okay to go up to strangers on a certain day to accept candy.

We instill in our children not to talk to strangers and yet we give them permission to do it on this one day for them to get something that is health destroying. What is to keep them from going to a stranger a few days later and getting some candy because the stranger lies to them and tells them it is left over from Halloween?

I could go on and on about this holiday, I could say that people are not dressed properly and that it seems to bring out all the crazy people. I could give you all the details and all the history about how it is so steeped in wickedness, but I think you get the idea. I have other holidays to discuss anyway, so we shall move on.

Thanksgiving is fast approaching it is soon to be here. You may ask what could possibly be wrong with this holiday. There are several things that this holiday encourages people to do that aren’t right. First, it seems all of these holidays have this in common, they all encourage people to become gluttons, and over indulge in all sorts of food and sweets. We are told in the Spirit of Prophecy over and over again how gluttony is wrong, even the Bible tells us in many places, that over indulgence is wrong. The lust of flesh is definitely under this category.

People are also watching the sports during this holiday and we have clear counsel that sports are not something that we as Christians should have anything to do with.

In my family on Thanksgiving, we do have a nice meal, but we use that day to read from the Bible the verses on thankfulness, we go around the table thanking the Lord what He has done for us during the year. We use that time to give thanks and praise to the Lord, which we should do every day. It is a nice opportunity to spend time with family but so many people in the world don’t spend the holidays together. Sure, they may all gather in one place, but they aren’t spending it together, the guys are in one room watching the sports, the children are on their phones, tablets or doing who knows what and the women are doing the cooking or talking together or watching their own thing.

If you do decide to get together on Thanksgiving and spend the time worshiping the Lord than that is great, but we should not make that day an excuse to eat more and do less. Another great thing to do is to go and help those that are in need, either by donating extra food, or helping in a soup kitchen or whatever the Lord moves you to do. It is great time to give back to those in need. You can do this any day of the year don’t just wait for the holidays to give back.

I know that there are several different versions of the story about how Thanksgiving began, the one that we all have heard in school and another version, I’m not going to get into that, but you can do your own research. I would say to use this time to thank the Lord for His many blessings and to serve others.

After Thanksgiving people are busy preparing for Christmas, in fact some people start their Christmas preparations before Thanksgiving, some start the planning as soon as Christmas is over. There is a lot I could say about this holiday, and I won’t have time to tell everything, but I will do my best to give a brief history.

Christmas first started out as a holiday to worship the sun god Ra and to celebrate the Winter Solstice. After Halloween this was also a big holiday to celebrate in the occult world, and it still is. This day had nothing to do with the birth of Christ, and if you study the Bible you would know that Christ was not even born during this time of year. This holiday had everything do to with pagan worship of the sun and they would decorate these trees with gold and silver and other things for their rituals of the holiday.

When Christians came on the scene and Paganism started mixing with Christianity, they needed a way to transfer the holiday as well. They changed the sun god Ra into one the saints that they pray to and they changed the holiday of worshipping the sun into what we know call Christmas.

America when it was still a young nation and starting out, the people who moved here banned the celebration of Christmas, because they knew that it was a pagan holiday and they did not want to celebrate it for that very reason. That wasn’t good for the Devil because slowly but surely it started changing until it started being celebrated again.

Though the holiday was said to be for the celebration of the birth of Christ it was anything but that, and of course the Devil couldn’t just leave it at that, so he invented Santa Claus. When you rearrange the word Santa you get Satan by the way. Santa Claus has been a myth now for centuries and there are different versions of him in every country that you go to.

It is an abomination, a mockery, and a way to distract the people. We all know the story of Santa, this big fat man with white hair who lives in the North Pole and gives gifts to the children on Christmas Eve. Not only does this encourage parents to lie to their children but it also crushes the child when they find out that Santa was their parents all along. Then those children grow up and do the same thing to their children. How is that a good thing?

In some countries Santa is an evil man, a horror story. How is that something that we should celebrate? I could go on about that subject for a while and give several other things, but I won’t because that isn’t everything. This holiday is so focused on making people selfish the children only care about getting their presents while people spend hundreds of dollars to get gifts, decorations, food, and everything else. I’m sure that there are people who go into debt just because of that holiday alone. How is any of that something that is righteous? To waste that money on all of those pointless decorations, decorations that have occult backgrounds by the way, instead of spending that money on witnessing and doing good for others.

Sure, everyone is encouraged to give back at the holidays, but by the time that they get everything they “need” how much do they have left to help others? Now I know what some of you are about to say, and that is that Ellen White says we shouldn’t ignore Christmas, but she also says that we shouldn’t put up any decorations, that if we get a tree at all it should be filled with envelopes to help the poor and needy. In other words, not make the day about ourselves. Christmas is a great time to witness and to share about Jesus, or to remind about Jesus because it is already brought to their minds because of the holidays. You can also spend that day with family and a nice meal talking about the Lord and use that time to help those in need. Although now a lot people don’t even know why they celebrate Christmas, they just were taught about Santa and that’s it.

I could go into a lot of deeper things about the Holidays, but I think you get my point. I would encourage you to read the Spirit of Prophecy about what she says about celebrating the holidays. Do your own research, pray about it and as difficult as it may be stop celebrating these pagan holidays. Remember not your will be done but the Lord’s.

It was hard for me to stop celebrating Christmas when I found out the paganism involved in it, because I loved the decorations, the lights, the gifts, and a lot of other things about the holiday. I could not continue to celebrate once I learned the truth, was it hard? Yes, but the Lord helped me put it behind and I am so glad He did. The Lord doesn’t force us to do anything, we must choose whether we love Him enough to follow Him no matter what the sacrifice may be. It isn’t always easy, but some of the best things in life come from sacrifice and hard work.

If you have celebrated these holidays, it is not too late to ask for forgiveness and to ask the Lord for His help in removing the desire to celebrate these things from your heart. One day very soon though it will be too late, so whether you are learning this for the first time or are hearing it again please consider prayerfully what the Lord wants you to do.

I pray that this is a blessing and that you may do your research on it and pray what the Lord is asking you to do. I will be praying for you as well. We don’t have much time left here, and I definitely don’t want to be wasting that time doing something that isn’t right, do you?
